The village by the sea was written by Anita Desai. A story of Indian family,16 miles away from Bomby. The story depicts the lifestyle of poor Indian families living near by sea. The character in the story, the unemployed father was a drinker. He drinks all the time and  unable 

to work due to his hard drinking habit. mother was suffering from sick and laying in bed all the time. Three sister and one brother .two younger sisters who are studying at school .Lila the elders douthter though only 13 years old .she stopped going to school due to economical problems.Hari soon become food provides of their family. The story seems to move slowly, but it moves ,an empathetically keep you in sync with the characters. Hair goes to Bombay for a job . Lila seems to be everything for survival of  rest of family . Lila keep her mother was admitted to hospital .the story end positively author tells about how badly monsoon affects their daily lives.This book is really very emotional and sensitive.
